The BAK BAKFlip MX4 EZ-Lift (part 450342) is a hard folding tonneau cover for the 2024-2025 Ford Ranger with a 5-foot bed. The manufacturer's product page describes an aluminum top with a high-density polymer core, a Flip Assist unlatching system, and an oversized paddle handle. The manufacturer says the assisted-lift design cuts opening effort to about 10.5 lbs, compared with nearly 30 lbs on standard hard folding covers. That lighter feel makes one-handed access to the bed practical when you are loading gear, hauling bikes, or working in the dark. Compared with a stock tailgate or a soft roll-up cover, the MX4 EZ-Lift gives you a lockable, weather-tight bed and full bed access when folded to the cab. Installation is a bolt-on job. The manufacturer says it uses the included tight-fit clamps and needs no cutting, trimming, or drilling, and it lists an installation time of 30 minutes or less with a Level 1 difficulty rating. Owners on user forums say the rear rail brackets can be tricky to seat. You do not need to remove the plastic bed rail cap; you can work the bracket in under the metal rail. Some owners also report that the side clamps must slide in from the end of the rail after the end plug is removed, and that the clamps need to be aligned before the front knobs are tightened. Check the tailgate seal fit after installation, because forum reports mention small leaks at the tailgate clamp points during wind-driven rain. Before you buy, confirm fitment for your exact truck and bed.
No. The manufacturer states that the cover installs with a bolt-on process using the included tight-fit clamps, with no cutting, trimming, or drilling required.
Owners on user forums say no. They report that the rear bracket can be worked under the metal bed rail by wedging it in, although seating it can take some patience.
Owners on user forums report that regular rain does not get in, but that a small amount of water can drip at the tailgate clamp locations when rain is blown sideways by wind. Adjusting the fit at installation may reduce this.
The manufacturer rates this cover as a Level 1, simple installation that takes about 30 minutes or less, with all necessary hardware included. The most common trouble spots reported on user forums are the rear rail brackets, the side clamps, and alignment. Owners say the side clamps must be slid into the rail from its end, and that the rail should sit square to the bed rail to prevent twisting. Owners also mention that some rail kits come with spacer shims, and that the instructions may not clearly say when to use them. Keep the cover in place until the panels latch and the alignment looks correct front to back, then tighten the front knobs. After the first drive, recheck the clamps and tailgate seal.
