The Bilstein B4 OE 17-20 Honda Civic Front Left Twintube Strut Assembly (MPN 22-291004) is a gas-pressure, twin-tube front strut for the left corner of the 10th-generation Civic. Bilstein positions the B4 OE line as a straight original-equipment replacement that restores factory ride height and tuning rather than lowering or stiffening the chassis. For a daily driver or sport compact that needs a factory-correct front strut without the cost of coilovers, that focus delivers the handling the car was engineered to have.
Compared with a budget strut, Bilstein's gas-pressure design is meant to hold damping force steady whether the car is lightly loaded or carrying passengers and cargo, so steering response and braking stability stay predictable at highway speeds and in town. The manufacturer's warranty text lists the B4 OE Replacement under a limited lifetime warranty for the original purchaser, with claims routed through the original place of purchase, which adds long-term value beyond the initial price. Warranty details vary between published versions for this product line, so confirm current terms with the manufacturer before buying. Searches for a 17-20 Civic front strut upgrade, an OE-replacement gas strut, or a 10th-gen Civic front suspension refresh all point to this application.
Before ordering, check fitment against your exact trim and model year, because application lists for 22-291004 are not fully consistent. Published lists cover EX, EX-L, LX, Sport, and Sport Touring trims, with some extending into 2021. Strut-level DIY work is manageable with basic hand tools, a helper, and a wheel alignment afterward. Buyers searching for a 2017 Civic EX-L front left strut or a 2019 Civic LX front strut replacement should verify the part number against their VIN or manufacturer fitment tool.
The manufacturer describes the B4 as a straight OE replacement that restores factory ride height and tuning. The B6 is an improved OE replacement with firmer, Bilstein-tuned damping for sharper body control while keeping OE ride height.
According to the manufacturer's warranty terms, the B4 OE Replacement is covered under a limited lifetime warranty for the original retail purchaser, and proof of purchase is required. Claims are processed through the original place of purchase. Units installed at the factory are handled by the vehicle manufacturer instead.
Front strut replacement is a moderate DIY job. Owners on user forums recommend supporting the lower control arm before removing the strut so it does not drop, and having a second person help guide the new assembly into the strut tower. Expect to unclip the ABS sensor wire and remove the brake hose bracket to free the knuckle. A 14mm socket covers the strut tower fasteners, and owners report that a gentle tap on the top of the knuckle with a rubber mallet can help separate it. Owners also advise tightening the strut mount only after the car's weight is back on the suspension, not while it is jacked up. Plan on a four-wheel alignment after reassembly to protect tire wear and steering geometry.
