The Bilstein B6 Performance is a rear monotube shock built on the brand's gas-pressure design. The manufacturer describes the B6 as a bolt-on upgrade that is tuned firmer than OE and is meant to work with your existing springs at stock ride height, so you get better damping control without lowering the car. The monotube layout keeps the oil under pressure, which helps prevent foaming and fade on rough roads or during repeated hard use. Compared with a stock twin-tube unit, that consistency matters on a crossover that carries passengers or cargo. Because the B6 is sized for factory-height springs, it avoids the preload problems that come with shorter shocks on lowered vehicles. Searches for a 2014-2020 Nissan Rogue rear monotube shock upgrade, a stock-spring rear damper replacement, or a Bilstein B6 versus B8 comparison for a lowered Rogue usually lead to this distinction.
Per the manufacturer, this rear unit is listed for the 2014-2020 Nissan Rogue and the 2017-2022 Rogue Sport. Confirm your exact model year and trim with the manufacturer before ordering, since fitment details can vary across sources. Rear-axle-only replacement is supported, so you can replace one side or both. Bilstein's guidance says the shocks should be installed by a qualified suspension technician with the proper tools. Do not use impact tools on fasteners, and make sure all mounting hardware is fully tightened before the vehicle is driven. After the job, the manufacturer recommends checking alignment and resetting the brake compensator and ABS to the vehicle maker's specifications. Yes. The manufacturer states the B6 is sized for stock-height springs. If you lower the vehicle, the manufacturer points to its B8 shock instead, which is shortened to set correct preload with lowering springs.
Yes. The manufacturer says the B6 can be installed on a single axle, so you can replace just the rear pair without touching the front struts.
The manufacturer says its shock absorbers require special tools and expert knowledge and recommends installation by a qualified suspension specialist. Experienced home mechanics with a jack, jack stands, and proper torque tools can attempt it, but the manufacturer advises against impact wrenches on suspension fasteners.
Removal should follow the vehicle manufacturer's service procedures, and the manufacturer's general mounting notes say to reuse original hardware only if it is in good condition. Support the vehicle securely on jack stands and let the suspension hang so the lower mount can be reached. Keep the thin film of oil on the piston rod and seal, since the manufacturer says not to wipe it off. Use hand-held torque tools rather than an impact gun on the mounting fasteners. Once the new rear shocks are in, check the alignment and make sure the brake compensator and ABS are reset as the vehicle manufacturer specifies.
