The Baja Designs LP9 Racer Edition is an auxiliary LED light pod with a clear lens and a Racer Edition Spot beam. It belongs to the LP9 family, which the brand based on its 8-inch La Paz HID. The Racer Edition is built for high-speed driving, so it trades the wide coverage of the standard LP9 for a tighter spot that reaches farther down a trail, desert wash, or open road. Each pod supports high beam, low beam, and daytime running light modes, plus a separate amber backlight circuit.
Compared with a stock fog lamp or a cheap no-name pod, the reason to pay for this unit is serviceability and control. The optics can be swapped through the front bezel without replacing the housing, so you can change lens color later as conditions change. The 12 to 36 volt operating range covers typical truck, Jeep, and UTV electrical systems, and the separate high, low, and amber inputs let you run the pod as a driving light or a high-speed spot without rewiring. For a buyer who wants long-throw reach at speed, these traits justify the price over a generic pod.
Fitment is universal, so the pod mounts wherever your bumper, bar, or roof has clearance. Confirm mounting space and wire routing before you order. The wiring is where most installs get complicated. The manufacturer's pin chart separates low beam, high beam, amber backlight, and ground, and it warns against energizing pins 1 and 4 at the same time. Owners on user forums commonly run each function through its own switch or relay and report that the high beam is very bright, so a separate switch for low beam is worth the extra wiring. The manufacturer lists the 330001 as a universal fit, so it is not built for a single make or model. Check mounting location and wire routing for your vehicle before ordering.
The manufacturer recommends its LP9 Pro wire harness for safely powering up to two lights at a time. Harness inclusion can vary by package, so confirm what is bundled with the pod before purchase.
Yes. Per the manufacturer's install sheet, you remove the six bolts on the back of the light with a 4mm Allen wrench, carefully remove the bezel and lens, and seat the o-ring in its groove before reinstalling. Tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 25 lbf-in.
Mounting is straightforward, but the wiring takes patience. Per the manufacturer's upfitter instructions, you need a circuit test light or multimeter, pliers, crimps, and a 10mm or 1/2-inch socket for battery terminals. The manufacturer also notes that low beam requires a 10A circuit, and that the backlight should tap a DRL circuit only after you confirm keyed power with a meter or test light. Owners on user forums commonly report that the high beam draws well under 15A per side, so a 15A auxiliary switch circuit is a common choice. Keep the three functions on separate switches or relays so you can run low beam without the high beam.
