If your car or track build calls for a Group 24R battery, the Antigravity AG-24R-40-RS (Group 24R 40Ah with Re-Start) swaps out the heavy lead-acid unit for a 14.25 lb lithium battery. Group 24 is a case size used by some Honda, Acura and GM vehicles, older American cars and boats, and Antigravity cites Acura and Datsun performance cars among its fitments.
Lithium has a reputation for going dead with no warning. Re-Start is Antigravity's answer: a low-voltage cut-off protects the cells, enough energy stays in reserve to restart the engine, and the keyfob or top button releases it when you need it. Behind that sits a full battery management system covering over-discharge, over-charge, short circuit and thermal protection, plus cell balancing.
At 14.25 lb, Antigravity rates lithium of this type at up to 70 percent lighter than a comparable lead-acid battery. Expect low self-discharge, vibration resistance, no acid and an expected 7 to 9 year life depending on use, according to Antigravity. Cranking is rated at 1500 peak cranking amps (CA), a peak figure rather than a CCA test number. Add the Antigravity AG-24R-40-RS to your cart at Track Ready Products and take the weight out of your next build.
Pull the negative cable first, then positive, remove the hold-down and the old battery, drop the new one in, and reconnect positive before negative.
Use a lithium-compatible charger for maintenance. Antigravity recommends the SC-4 and SC-10 Super-Chargers, and an old lead-acid float charger is the wrong tool here.
Match the terminal side to your old battery before you order, and make sure your cable ends fit the threaded terminals.
Lithium gives up some cranking power in deep cold, so keep that in mind for winter starts. Antigravity ships these with an adult signature required at delivery, so plan for someone to be home.
